Why we spent thousands of hours building an instantaneous, zero-cloud remote for Onkyo, Integra, and Pioneer receivers.
We bought high-end audio receivers—Onkyo TX-RZ series, Pioneer Elite, Integra—because we care about sound. We care about discrete high-current amplification, massive toroidal transformers, and bit-perfect Dolby Atmos decoding.
Yet whenever friends sat down for movie night, adjusting the volume meant either hunting under couch cushions for a cheap plastic remote, or waiting 12 seconds for an abandoned OEM app to find the receiver—only to get interrupted by a glaring white volume slider.
We wrote ONYX because we wanted a remote that felt like actual physical audio equipment. When you press the volume button on your phone, the receiver should click instantly. When you walk into your living room, the app shouldn’t ask you to create a cloud account or accept a marketing newsletter. It should just work, at the speed of electricity.
That's why ONYX will never have accounts, will never run cloud analytics, and will keep its core remote functionality 100% free forever. If you appreciate fine hi-fi gear, we think you'll love having it on your phone.
Four engineering commitments that guide every release and architectural decision we make.
We believe latency is a respect mechanism. ONYX bypasses the public cloud entirely, speaking raw eISCP binary packets directly over your home Wi-Fi. The millisecond your thumb touches the screen or phone volume rocker, your amplifier clicks.
Flagship audio receivers with massive power stages and discrete DACs easily last 20+ years. We refuse to let brilliant amplifiers become e-waste simply because OEM mobile apps were abandoned. ONYX fully supports over 100 models from 2011 to 2026.
Your living room is private. ONYX has zero accounts, zero cloud logins, zero marketing newsletters, and zero user analytics tracking. App network traffic never leaves your local Wi-Fi subnet, and no audio telemetry is ever transmitted externally.
Modern flat touchscreen interfaces often lack the soul of machined hi-fi hardware. We obsess over physical details: intercepting your phone's volume rocker with subtle haptic ticks, darkroom OLED protection, and Dynamic Island & Lock Screen Live Activity steppers designed for effortless thumb control.
“If a non-technical family member cannot dim the volume or switch to Apple TV in the dark within two seconds, the interface has failed. Audio software should enhance movie night, never interrupt it.”— The ONYX Living Room Standard
